Just having my poached eggs on toast with marmite looking at the estate...
Thanking the girls for the lovely eggs and I see them scratching something on the ground. It's two of their own they are scratching. Not just scratching, but grooming.
Two had sat down for a dust bath to sort out feathers and deal with bugs and obviously some of the others saw the chance for some free protein, yummy. Interesting thing is I'd never seen them do it in quite this way, organised and really quite gentle. The scratching's not as harsh as when they are digging the ground.Anyway, I grabbed the nearest thing I could to take video, hence the dodgy quality - but here's the evidence.
Any other hen watchers seen this - have I been asleep the last 12 years keeping chickens?
